The “Capsule Reef” modular housing project is designed to address the housing crisis in Las Vegas through a system of two-storey housing modules. These capsules are flexible in their function, catering to different user groups, and are assembled into an omni-structure that integrates with the urban fabric while resisting traditional city forms. The modular system allows for easy placement across the city, including vacant rooftops, empty plots, and parking lots, with a concentration around the Las Vegas Strip to ensure accessibility to key urban areas.
This approach takes advantage of lightweight, recyclable materials, minimizing construction costs and land-use impact. Each capsule incorporates two vertical systems: an aquaponic urban farming setup and a solar exhaust chimney-collector, creating a closed-loop cycle that supports energy efficiency, low maintenance costs, and thermal comfort. Passive strategies like stack ventilation and weather-resistant materials ensure a comfortable and sustainable living environment. Through this approach, Capsule Reef aims to provide a scalable, sustainable, and cost-effective housing solution for the city.
