Well equipped outdoor spaces have the capacity to draw more urban dwellers into open spaces. A combination of both art and engineering can deliver this outcome in a sustainable manner. Climate responsive design and engineering that levers heat reduction techniques, filtering of dusty wind currents, and provision of greenery can convert open spaces into urban oases.

The chimney-like modules are lightweight tensile canopies that: at their highest absorbe more of the sun’s radiation, allowing air within to heat up and escape upwards, like a chimney. The negative pressure created allows accumulating hot air underneath the canopy to be dragged up the chimney’s open tip.

Preserving a comfortable temperature beneath the canopy structures can also be reinforced by taking advantage of the soil’s geothermal properties. As an added feature, generating canopy modules that mimic vegetal cell distribution bring multiple advantages related to assembly and flexibility.
